Atlas Stones
In the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, ranging from 2726 to 3797 metres altitude, are found Neolithic rock engravings 3000 to 7000 years old.
On exposed flat rock faces are depicted records of animals, hunters, weapons and tools. Most spectacular are the circles which reach the diameter of 4 or 5 feet. These are interpreted as shields or as the sun.
The three major sites of Oukaimeden, Yogour and Jbel-rat are snow covered for more than half of the year and tended by shepherds and their flocks when the snow melts.
